What makes touch controls actually good
Touch controls make or break a mobile game, and racing games are where you feel it most. A racer with clumsy controls is unplayable no matter how nice it looks. Neon Drift Club gets this right with a single tap-and-hold drift that just feels natural.
The trick is keeping inputs simple and responsive. Too many buttons crowd a small screen and hide the action behind your thumbs. The best mobile games find one or two core inputs and make them feel great.
Feedback matters too. When I drift in a good racer, I want the car to respond instantly and the game to reward a clean line. Any lag between my tap and the car reacting and I'm out.
When we test action games, we pay close attention to this. A game can have brilliant ideas, but if the controls fight you, none of it lands. Simplicity usually wins on a touchscreen.
